Fish & Co’s Crabmeat Spaghetti

Singapore food scene can be best described as food jungle. There are practically different kinds of food in the metro, ranging from Italian restaurants Singapore (which serves Singapore Italian food like pasta and vegetarian pizza) to humble hawker centres and kopi tiams. It’s no wonder locals and tourists alike come to these places – to experience Singapore gastronomic adventure like no other!

So where else can you find the best Chili Crab in town?

I know a place they call Fish & Co. I’ve been there a couple of days ago and boy, Chili crab lovers like me will surely find Crabmeat Spaghetti irresistible, I can bet on that! This dish is a newbie, but it already won the hearts (and taste buds) of the crowd. Here’s what their menu says about that deli:

“Crabmeat Spaghetti

Dig your fork into our spaghetti tossed with homemade chilli crab sauce and topped with fresh crabmeat.”

I must say that they practically live up to their words!

Crabmeat Spaghetti is just one of their Pasta selections, all of it are truly mouth filling. But I dared not touch other cuisines ‘coz you know, I’m very loyal to my Chili crab.

Mark my words on that! J

The Red House Seafood Chili Crab

I’ve browsed in the internet for some restaurants that serve Chili crab and I stumbled upon Red House Seafood’s website. What actually intrigued me was their food blog, entitled “Singapore’s Best Chilli Crab – Where to find the best chilli crab in Singapore?” It says there that their version of chili crab could be the Singapore’s best.

Hmmm. That was a huge claim, I thought. But then, the picture of that big, juicy crab looks great! So I told myself, “I’ll be the judge of that!”

In was 4 o’clock on the dot when I made it yesterday to Red House Seafood. I chose their branch in East Coast because aside from being a chili crab fanatic, I also love the sea.

So anyways. I ask the staff right away for the Chili crab, telling her that it is the only thing I want, aside from my iced tea of course. I waited for a couple of minutes. And when the food finally arrived, I can say that it’s worth the wait, more so my 30-minute travel time to get here.

I eat the whole thing like there’s no tomorrow! The fusion of sweet and chilli flavors toyed my taste buds and it’s very delightful! I gobbled up every piece of that succulent crabmeat, and mopped up the thick sauce until its last drop.

This baby is just perfect! I went home satisfied. J

Chili Crab ala No Signboard Seafood

After writing about Joan Bowen Café and their infamous Chili crab pasta, for my 4th entry, I would like to talk about No Signboard Seafood.

No Signboard Seafood was born in the 70’s in the Mattar Road Hawker Centre. The credit for naming this restaurant goes to their patrons who frequented the restaurant with “no signboard.” Through word of mouth, customers were able to spread the news about how good their homemade cuisines were. Back then, their specialty was White Pepper Crab, a signature dish concocted by Madam Ong Kim Hoi herself.

To date, there are four branches of No Signboard Seafood and the restaurant has established its name as one of the best places to eat in Singapore (they do have signage now, and it’s quite big and catchy, I must say!). Some of their bestsellers, aside from those crab delis listed below, include Hokkien style steamed fish, Double boiled lobster, Crispy cereal crayfish, and Garlic steamed bamboo clam.

These are their famous crab delis:

· White Pepper Crab
· Chilli Crab
· Butter Crab
· Steam Crab
· Ginger & Spring Onion Crab

So if you feel like eating some chili crab as well as other seafood delis, why not check out No Signboard Seafood at these addresses:

Chili Crab Pasta – All-time Fave with a Twist

“Still on the lookout for the most delicious chili crab dishes in town!”

As I continue my quest for different restaurants in Singapore, looking for mouth-watering chili crab dishes, I was thinking of searching for something with a twist. Well, the idea behind this was from a middle-aged woman who happen sit next to me on the MRT. She was constantly speaking about how good the chili crab pasta was at this so-and-so restaurant. So then, I decided to look for restaurants that serve chili crab with a twist!

When I hit the search button, one restaurant captured my interest. It’s called Joan Bowen Café and is situated at Jalan Wangi.

As I look at their menu, they’ve got different pasta dishes suited for pasta lovers out there. But as for me, I just want to try their Chili crab pasta. Nothing more, nothing less.

Joan Bowen Café’s own version of chili crab pasta looks delectable. The sweet and creamy tomato paste plus the garlicky flavor does all the savoring trick, if you know what I mean. Plus, the pinch of spiciness makes this dish oh-so-irresistible! I think the pasta part is just a bonus, more like an icing on top of the cake.

As I have mentioned, Joan Bowen Café is a restaurant that serves various delis, one of the humblest yet maybe considered one of the best restaurants in Singapore. Pay them a visit and don’t forget to try their Chili crab pasta.

Oh, by the way, that lady is right. J

The Heat is On but I’ll Get My Chili Crab No Matter What!

It was one of those lazy Sunday afternoons that I decided to go out for a walk. My girl friends aren’t in for some strolling, so I decided to head on myself.

At 4:00 in the afternoon, I stepped out of my flat into the hot, summer-like weather of the city. Whew! I feel like I was being grilled in the oven! But then again, the thought of chili crab alone made me push through. It gave me the strength and the courage to overcome the urge of going back in my apartment!

Since I have researched the night before, I know exactly where I want to go. Saves me the time and trouble of finding a good place to enjoy my favorite dish. To make things savvier, I even reserved myself a seat. Nice!

I hailed a cab and told the driver to take me to the Palm Beach Restaurant at One Fullerton.

As an overview, Palm Beach Restaurant is a classy seafood restaurant that was founded in 1956. It is said that during those days, they only have 9 dishes in their menu, including the world-famous Chili Crab. They already have several other branches in the metro, including the one that is situated in the Marina Bay area where the view is really stunning. Maybe I’ll check that place out next time.

The whole dining experience is superb! The crabs are just tasty, with the perfect mixture of chili and tomato sauce. One of the best food in Singapore, I must say!

So says I can’t have fun all by myself? I just did. As long as my chili crab is with me! Nothing can get in the way. Even the scorching heat.

Singapore Chili Crab

Singapore is a food haven. It’s actually one of the reasons why many people bother to visit the city, aside from the panoramic views and savvy shopping playgrounds, of course! But no matter what they say, I will always be chanting the same mantra over and over again – Singapore is chili crab! Singapore is chili crab!

So I guess by now you already have an idea about who I am. Yes, yes, I’m a self-confessed chili crab lover! And I’m really proud of it, if you know what I mean. It goes to show now that I’ll be writing about chili crab. And nothing else!

In a nutshell, Singapore chili crab is the unofficial national food of the country. There are practically different Singapore restaurants that offer this dish, but I believe there are variations with the way they cook it or something. Maybe the difference also comes from the kinds of crabs used. Then again I have to thank Madam Chef Cher Yam Tian for creating this lovely dish.

Did I mention that chili crab landed on the World’s Most Delicious Food by the CNNGo.com? Oh yes!
The Black Pepper Crab, chili crab’s closest relative, is more or less the same and as lovely as the chili version. However, I would like to deal about chili crab per se, because deviating from it would mean that I would engage in such a “traitorous” act which is really a big, big shame!

Nuff said.

I will write more about chili crab in my next entries. I am actually thinking about sharing my own recipe for this dish. I think that would be a great idea!
